See below for the range of regular award-winning beers brewed by the Irving & Co Brewery, tasting notes and information on each beer:
A full bodied medium chestnut coloured premium cask ale with an initial sweet malty flavour balanced with a subtle bitterness. The beer finishes with a delicious citrus and spice hop character.
Golden bitter with citrus hop flavour derived from the addition of English Sovereign and Boudicea hops in the hopback. Complemented by a background sweetness from the subtle use of light crystal and cara-malt.
A robust best bitter with a deep ruby red hue obtained from the use of a generous addition of crystal malt. This beer balances sweet hedgerow berry notes with a long roasted malt finish and a deep bitterness from the English Pilgrim hops used in the copper and the hopback.
A classic dark Oatmeal stout, brewed with a combination of Roasted Barley, Chocolate Malt and Crystal Wheat Malt to give a deep black colour and Oat Malt to give a smooth rounded malt flavour. This lovely malt flavour is balanced with a strong bitterness from Fuggles and Sovereign Hops, definitely a beer for the aficionados.
Iron Duke is a luscious golden modern style IPA. The nose is dominated by the aromas of sherbet and lemon from the Liberty and Columbus hops added late in the hopback. The palate is soft fruits and pineapple balanced with a subtle toffee sweetness, finishing with a pleasant citrus bitterness.
Shipmate 4.3% Summer Wheat A golden slightly hazy wheat beer brewed in traditional Witbier style using both malted wheat malted barley and malted oats, with the addition of Orange peel and Coriander alongside the syrian goldings hops. The nose is a pleasant orange and lemon zest, with a malt sweetness on the palate leading to a lasting almost warming spicy coriander finish.
Brewed with English Challenger and First Gold Hops, this straw coloured summer ale has a fresh malt and mandarin aroma, soft fruits are the dominant flavour with a lasting bitter hoppy finish. Spinnaker is available throughout June, July and August.
A burnished gold coloured ale with a fresh grass aroma, the palate has soft fruits and a subtle soft roasted malt flavour. The finish is initially a smooth oat malt character followed by a lasting vibrant bitterness.
A Light golden pale ale with mandarin and lemon hop notes on the nose. This “lusty” ale has a resinous challenger hop flavour complimented with a light sweet malt character, the finish is a lasting bitterness with floral hop notes.
A classic Christmas Ale, rich warm and satisfying. Red plum has three types of Crystal malt added (Barley, Rye and Wheat) to give a distinctive and unique sweet biscuity flavour and a slight red hue, making the beer appealing to the eye as well as the palate. Subtle spicy hop notes make this a beer to sit down and savour through the festive period, a time when we all deserve something as special as this.
Eighty Shilling Scotch Ale - A Scottish style malty beer brewed in the style of some of the Scotch Ales of yesteryear. "Wee Malc's" is a medium chestnut colour with a deep caramel and vanilla flavour and aroma. This beer is not too bitter and is the perfect accompaniment to hearty rich stews and casseroles, or indeed Haggis Neeps and Tatties! The tartan on the pump clip is "Irving of Bonshaw Tower" Tartan. Wee Malc's 80/- is available from mid January through to mid February.
A burnished Gold coloured Harvest Ale brewed with English Challenger Hops for bitterness and aroma, complemented with subtle smooth roasted malt sweetness. It is our intention to brew Tin Fish as a single varietal harvest hop bitter changing the hop variety each year showcasing a different English hop variety each year
A traditional Hampshire Strong ale, initially has a sweet malty nose followed with a deep raisin and fruitcake flavour balanced with a subtle bitterness from the Fuggles and Sovreign Hops. This beer is fermented at slightly elevated temperatures to encourage the development of fruity ester notes derived from the malt in the manner of classic strong ales of the past.
